What are the top academic institutions in Miami?

South Florida is home to over 200,000 college and graduate students, and some very well regarded research institutions. They have recognized the potential of Miami and are investing in innovation programs to further enhance its undergraduate teaching and
help fulfill the creativity demand that startups in Miami are demanding. 

Below is a small subset of the educational institutions you can find in Greater Miami.

  • Florida International University (FIU): Miami’s only public research university. It is the largest university in South Florida, with over 58,000 students, over 80% of whom are minority. It has the highest Carnegie Research Classification and is ranked 15 in the US and 50 globally for patent production.
  • The University of Miami: The largest private research university in Miami, with more than 7,000 students from around the world. It comprises 12 schools and colleges serving undergraduate and graduate students in nearly 350 majors and programs. Including the LaunchPad that focuses on entrepreneurship. 

Miami Dade College: The largest institution of higher education in the country. It has eight campuses that offer more than 300 educational pathways to a career. It recently invested $15M to prepare for the next generation of tech jobs including: applied artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics and related emerging technologies.
